The Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT) was conceived in 1991, when Ford senior management recognized the corporate advantages of investigating niche vehicle market opportunities. Since that time more than seven different SVT vehicles have been produced, including the Cobra (both coupe and convertible), the Shelby GT500, the F-150 Lightning, the Raptor, the SVT Contour, both three and five-door versions of the SVT Focus, special SVT Mustang Cobra 'R' models, and the Ford GT supercar.
